Communities across Durham Region
Durham Region’s official municipal structure includes eight local area municipalities. Within the northern and eastern townships and cities are many established urban centres, villages and hamlets. The following geographic index helps readers find coverage while keeping each place connected to its municipality.
Brock Township communities
Brock’s three urban areas are Beaverton, Cannington and Sunderland. The township’s official plan also identifies the hamlets of Gamebridge, Manilla, Port Bolster, Sonya and Wilfrid.
Clarington communities
Clarington’s four principal urban communities are Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle and Orono. Rural communities include Brownsville, Burketon, Enfield, Enniskillen, Hampton, Haydon, Kendal, Kirby, Leskard, Maple Grove, Mitchell Corners, Newtonville, Solina and Tyrone. Wilmot Creek is another established Clarington community frequently covered in local reporting.
Pickering communities
In addition to urban Pickering, the city identifies eight historic rural hamlets: Balsam, Brougham, Cherrywood, Claremont, Green River, Greenwood, Kinsale and Whitevale.
Scugog communities
Port Perry is Scugog’s main urban centre. The township’s official plan identifies Blackstock, Caesarea, Epsom, Greenbank, Manchester, Nestleton, Nestleton Station, Seagrave and Utica as hamlets. The municipality also includes Scugog Island and lakeside communities such as View Lake.
Uxbridge communities
The Uxbridge urban area is surrounded by the hamlets and rural communities of Coppins Corners, Goodwood, Leaskdale, Sandford, Sandy Hook, Siloam, Udora and Zephyr.
Whitby communities
Whitby includes the historic downtowns of Whitby and Brooklin, together with rural communities including Ashburn, Myrtle and Myrtle Station.
