Twins Herbal recall warns of undeclared sildenafil

Ontario consumers are being warned to stop using two Twins Herbal liquid products after Health Canada found they contain undeclared sildenafil, a prescription drug that should only be used under medical supervision.

The Twins Herbal recall covers Idakole and Pelorie, with all lots affected. Health Canada says both products were sold without market authorization in Canada and were distributed in Ontario.

The federal recall was issued on Aug. 25, 2026, and is classified as a Type I health product recall.

Two Twins Herbal products affected

Health Canada identifies the affected products as Twins Herbal Idakole and Twins Herbal Pelorie. Both are sold in liquid form, and neither has Canadian market authorization.

The recall applies to all lots of both products.

Health Canada says authorized health products in Canada should carry an eight-digit Drug Identification Number, Natural Product Number or Homeopathic Drug Number, depending on the type of product.

Consumers are being told to discontinue use of Idakole and Pelorie and consult a healthcare provider if they have health concerns after using either product.

The products were distributed in Ontario. Reports indicate they may have been available online, although Health Canada’s official recall notice does not identify individual retailers or online marketplaces.

Why undeclared sildenafil is a concern

Sildenafil is a prescription medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. Health Canada says products containing sildenafil should only be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

The concern with the Twins Herbal recall is that consumers could take the products without knowing they are being exposed to a prescription medication.

Health Canada warns that sildenafil should not be used by people taking nitrate medications such as nitroglycerin because the combination can cause potentially life-threatening low blood pressure.

People with heart conditions can also face an increased risk of cardiovascular side effects. Other possible effects associated with sildenafil include headache, facial flushing, indigestion, dizziness, abnormal vision and hearing loss.

Because the ingredient was undeclared and the products were not authorized for sale, consumers may not have had the information normally provided with an approved medication.

Recall distributed across Ontario

Health Canada’s notice lists Ontario as the distribution area for the recalled products.

The recalling company is Twins African Restaurant and Bar Inc. of Brampton.

The federal agency has classified the action as a Type I recall. Health Canada has defined a Type I drug recall as a situation where there is a reasonable probability that use of or exposure to a product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

The official notice does not provide a breakdown of where individual units were purchased or how many were sold in Durham Region.

That means Durham residents who have purchased Twins Herbal Idakole or Pelorie should check the product name rather than assuming the recall applies only to particular stores or communities.

What Ontario consumers should do

Health Canada says anyone with an affected product should stop using it.

People who have taken Idakole or Pelorie and have health concerns should speak with a healthcare professional. Consumers can also report health-product side effects or safety complaints to Health Canada.

The agency is also reminding Canadians not to buy or use unauthorized health products and to check for a DIN, NPN or DIN-HM when determining whether a product has been authorized for sale.

The Twins Herbal recall applies to all lots of both Idakole and Pelorie distributed in Ontario.
