Drivers in Bowmanville should prepare for several days of traffic disruptions as construction brings around-the-clock lane restrictions to a section of Liberty Street North.
The Bowmanville lane restrictions will affect both northbound and southbound traffic on Liberty Street North between Wellington Street and Carlisle Avenue from Monday, Aug. 31 through Friday, Sept. 4.
Durham Region says the restrictions are required so crews can safely install new water and sanitary services in support of development in the area.
Liberty Street restrictions run day and night
Unlike some road projects that affect traffic only during working hours, the Liberty Street restrictions are scheduled to remain in place both day and night throughout the construction period.
The affected section is part of Liberty Street North, also known as Regional Road 14.
Motorists travelling between Wellington Street and Carlisle Avenue should expect reduced lane availability and possible delays while the work is underway.
Durham Region says unfavourable weather could affect the schedule, meaning the planned Sept. 4 completion date may change if conditions interfere with construction.
Water and sanitary services being installed
The work involves the installation of water and sanitary services to support new development.
The Region’s notice does not identify which specific development is being serviced, so drivers should treat the construction as a separate road-work notice rather than assuming it is connected with one of the residential proposals recently approved elsewhere in Bowmanville.
