An Ajax Outdoor Movie night is bringing How to Train Your Dragon to the Audley Recreation Centre on Friday, Aug. 14, giving families a free evening of entertainment under the summer sky.
The Town of Ajax is hosting the screening on a giant inflatable movie screen as part of its outdoor programming.
The 2025 live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon will be shown, offering audiences a reimagining of the popular 2010 animated film.
Admission is free, and advance registration is not required.
Movie begins around dusk
The screening is expected to begin at approximately 8:15 p.m., around dusk.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early enough to find a comfortable viewing spot before the film begins.
The event will take place at the Audley Recreation Centre, one of Ajax’s major community recreation facilities.
Families can bring chairs or blankets to sit on during the movie.
The Town also recommends bringing snacks and bug spray for the outdoor screening.
Event will happen rain or shine
The Ajax Outdoor Movie is scheduled to proceed even if the weather does not cooperate.
If rain makes an outdoor screening impractical, the event will be moved inside the Audley Recreation Centre Gymnasium.
The indoor space has a stated capacity of approximately 400 people.
That contingency plan allows the movie night to continue regardless of light rain or other weather conditions.
Attendees should still check any Town of Ajax updates before leaving home in case severe weather or other unexpected conditions require further changes.
Live-action version released in 2025
The film being shown is the 2025 live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon.
Directed by Dean DeBlois, the movie retells the story originally made famous through the 2010 animated film.
The story follows a young Viking and his unexpected friendship with a dragon, combining adventure, humour and family-oriented themes.
The movie carries a PG rating, making the Town’s screening suitable for a broad family audience.
Free family activity in Ajax
No ticket purchase is required for the event.
Free outdoor movie nights provide an accessible way for residents to enjoy community programming without having to travel outside Ajax or pay regular cinema admission prices.
The outdoor format also gives families an opportunity to enjoy local recreation spaces in a different way.
Visitors should bring only the items they need and keep pathways and viewing areas clear for other attendees.
What to bring
The Town recommends that moviegoers prepare for a typical summer evening outdoors.
Useful items may include folding chairs, blankets, snacks, water and insect repellent.
Because the movie begins after sunset approaches, temperatures may also feel cooler later in the evening.
Families with younger children may want to bring an extra layer of clothing.
Ajax families invited to attend
The Ajax Outdoor Movie offers residents a free Friday-night activity before the weekend begins.
The screening is planned for Friday, Aug. 14, at Audley Recreation Centre, with the movie starting around 8:15 p.m.
No registration is necessary, and admission is free.
If conditions remain suitable, the film will be shown outdoors on the inflatable screen. If rain arrives, organizers plan to relocate the event indoors to the ARC Gymnasium.
Residents interested in attending should arrive prepared with seating, snacks and bug spray and check Town of Ajax information for any last-minute updates.
