The Orono Antique Festival will return to downtown Orono on Saturday, August 8, offering visitors a full day of antiques, collectibles, vintage merchandise, food and local shopping.

The 17th annual street festival will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Main Street. Admission is free, and the event is scheduled to continue rain or shine. Main Street in downtown Orono will be closed to vehicle traffic during festival hours so vendors and visitors can use the roadway safely.

Antiques and collectibles fill Main Street

The festival gives collectors and casual shoppers an opportunity to browse items from independent antique dealers in an outdoor setting.

Visitors may find furniture, household décor, retro products, records, jewellery, books, artwork, historical objects and collectibles from different periods.

Because each vendor brings a different selection, organizers promote the event as a destination for people searching for uncommon pieces or items that may not be available through regular retail stores.

The street format also allows visitors to walk through downtown Orono while exploring local shops, restaurants and other businesses.

Local antique stores join the event

Orono’s established antique businesses will also participate in the Orono Antique Festival.

The Orono Antique Market and Main Thru Church Antique Mall are expected to remain open and offer in-store specials during the event. Together, the two businesses provide more than 11,000 square feet of antique retail space and host dozens of vendors throughout the year.

Downtown Orono is known for its antique stores, independent businesses and historic small-town setting. The Orono Business Improvement Area describes the annual festival as one of the community’s signature summer attractions.

Festival visitors can therefore continue shopping indoors after browsing the outdoor booths.

Food available throughout the day

Food vendors will be available during the festival, giving visitors options for refreshments and meals while exploring the displays.

Local restaurants and businesses in Orono may also benefit from increased foot traffic during the event.

The festival has traditionally attracted residents from Clarington and visitors from neighbouring Durham Region communities who are interested in antiques, local history and independent shopping.

Families are welcome, although parents should supervise young children around fragile merchandise and busy vendor displays.

Road closure planned downtown

Main Street will close to traffic during the festival between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Drivers travelling through Orono should expect temporary changes and follow all posted signs or directions from event personnel.

Visitors should allow additional time to find legal parking and walk to the festival area. Parking restrictions and access arrangements may vary depending on the location of vendor booths and temporary barriers.

Drivers should also be aware that Mill Street between Main Street and Dickson Street was previously closed because of a sinkhole. Anyone approaching downtown Orono should check current municipal traffic information before travelling.

Festival runs Saturday only

The Orono Antique Festival is a one-day event scheduled for Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Admission is free, and no advance ticket is required for general entry. Visitors are encouraged to dress for the weather and bring reusable bags or suitable packing materials if they plan to purchase fragile items.

The festival provides an opportunity to search for unique merchandise while supporting antique dealers, food vendors and established businesses in downtown Orono.

Additional information about the participating vendors and event arrangements is available through the Orono Business Improvement Area’s official festival page.
