The DRT Y10 Youth Pass is offering Durham Region students between the ages of 13 and 19 a chance to save more than $200 on public transit during the upcoming school year.
The Durham Region Transit program provides discounted monthly passes from September 2026 through June 2027. Eligible riders can receive unlimited travel across the DRT network as long as they enrol in the program and continue purchasing the pass every month.
The September pass must be purchased by September 10 to maintain eligibility for the full 10-month program.
Students can save more than $200
Youth riders can save $20.73 on each consecutive Y10 monthly pass compared with the standard youth monthly fare.
A participant who purchases every monthly pass from September through June can save a total of $207.30 over the school year.
The discount is intended to make regular transportation more affordable for students travelling to school, part-time jobs, appointments, recreation programs and other activities across Durham Region.
The pass provides unlimited DRT travel during the valid month, allowing students to make multiple trips without paying a separate fare each time.
Durham Region Transit says the program supports affordable and accessible transportation for young residents throughout the academic year.
September deadline is important
Students must complete the Y10 enrolment process and purchase their first monthly pass by September 10, 2026.
After enrolment, participants are responsible for purchasing each monthly pass consecutively through June. Missing a required monthly purchase may affect eligibility for the continuing discount.
The official DRT fare information says participants using an existing PRESTO card will receive a discount voucher code by email. The code must be redeemed through the PRESTO website before the discounted September pass can be purchased.
DRT advises customers to allow up to 24 hours after redeeming the voucher before purchasing the pass.
The DRT Y10 Youth Pass is not available through the PRESTO e-ticket mobile application.
Where students can purchase the pass
Eligible riders can purchase the September pass online through PRESTO after completing the required enrolment steps, or visit a DRT PRESTO point-of-sale location.
Locations listed for in-person service include:
- DRT Customer Service at 110 Westney Road South in Ajax
- Region of Durham Headquarters at 605 Rossland Road East in Whitby
- Oshawa Centre Guest Services at 419 King Street West in Oshawa
- Township of Scugog offices at 181 Perry Street in Port Perry
Students purchasing a new physical PRESTO card should bring identification showing their date of birth to confirm that they meet the program’s age requirement.
Y10 passes can generally be purchased from the 21st day of the previous month until the 15th day of the pass month. However, students joining the complete school-year program must meet the earlier September 10 enrolment and first-purchase deadline.
Who qualifies for the program?
The program is available to youth aged 13 through 19.
Students must complete the official Y10 enrolment form and use a PRESTO card with the appropriate youth fare category. They must also redeem the discount code when required and purchase each monthly pass throughout the program period.
The pass becomes valid on September 1 and can provide continuous unlimited travel until June 30, 2027, when all monthly passes are purchased consecutively.
Families encouraged to enrol early
Families should complete the enrolment process before the September deadline to allow enough time for voucher delivery, PRESTO activation and the first pass purchase.
Students who already use DRT for school or other regular travel may see the greatest financial benefit from the program.
