The Durham Weather Forecast calls for sunny and seasonally warm conditions through Wednesday before showers and possible thunderstorms return to the region later this week.
Residents across Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, Clarington, Uxbridge, Scugog and Brock can expect favourable outdoor conditions during the first half of the week. However, a developing weather disturbance could bring less settled conditions beginning Thursday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada reported that a high-pressure system was helping keep southern Ontario dry and sunny on Tuesday, August 4. Temperatures across the Greater Toronto Area were expected to reach approximately 27 or 28 C, with the humidex making conditions feel several degrees warmer.
The current regional forecast indicates sunshine and a daytime high near 27 C on Tuesday. Wednesday is expected to become warmer and more humid, with temperatures approaching 30 C in parts of Durham Region.
Sunshine continues through Wednesday
Tuesday and Wednesday should provide a brief period of relatively stable summer weather following significant rainfall in other parts of southern Ontario during the August long weekend.
The humidity is not expected to be excessive on Tuesday, although it may become more noticeable by Wednesday. Residents planning outdoor work, recreational activities or visits to local parks and waterfront areas should still take normal precautions during the warmest part of the day.
These include drinking enough water, wearing lightweight clothing, using sunscreen and taking breaks from direct sunlight when necessary.
The sunny conditions will also give communities affected by recent rainfall an opportunity to dry out before the next weather system approaches.
Showers possible Thursday
The Durham Weather Forecast becomes more unsettled on Thursday, August 6, as a disturbance moves across southern Ontario.
The regional outlook currently calls for a mixture of clouds and sunshine, along with the possibility of showers and a thunderstorm. Conditions are expected to remain warm and humid, with a daytime high near 30 C.
Meteorologists have indicated that Thursday’s rainfall may be sporadic rather than continuous. This means some Durham communities could receive a shower or thunderstorm while nearby areas remain relatively dry.
Any thunderstorms that develop could also produce locally stronger wind gusts. However, the precise timing, location and intensity of the storms may change as the system approaches.
Unsettled conditions may continue Friday
Friday, August 7, is expected to remain humid, with variable cloud cover and the possibility of additional showers in parts of southern Ontario.
The source forecast suggests rainfall could become more widespread on Friday, although meteorologists will continue monitoring how the disturbance develops.
Residents should check updated forecasts before attending outdoor events, travelling or completing work that could be affected by rainfall or lightning.
Drivers should also be prepared for quickly changing road conditions during heavier showers. Reduced visibility and water collecting on roadways can make travel more difficult, particularly during morning and evening traffic.

At the time of the current forecast, the weather service had not identified a major severe-weather event for Durham Region. Forecast conditions can still change quickly during the summer, especially when heat and humidity contribute to thunderstorm development.
