Oshawa residents experienced a bright but windy Wednesday as Oshawa wind gusts approached 50 km/h on July 29. Environment and Climate Change Canada recorded north winds of 28 km/h with gusts reaching 48 km/h at Oshawa Executive Airport around noon. The temperature was close to 25 C, with sunny skies and a humidex of 28.
The conditions followed a broader southern Ontario forecast that called for gusts of up to 50 km/h across parts of the Greater Toronto Area and up to 60 km/h in portions of Perth County. The stronger 60 km/h estimate did not apply directly to Oshawa, making a Durham-focused headline of nearly 50 km/h more accurate.
Updated Oshawa Forecast Shows Sunny Conditions
Environment Canada’s updated 11 a.m. forecast called for sunshine throughout the day, with north winds of 20 km/h gusting to 40 km/h. The daytime high was expected to reach 25 C, while the humidex could make it feel closer to 30. The UV index was listed at 7, or high, meaning residents spending extended time outdoors should use appropriate sun protection.
Although the forecast gust value was reduced to 40 km/h, observed conditions at the airport showed gusts near 50 km/h around midday. Residents using patios, balconies, parks or waterfront areas may want to secure lightweight outdoor objects such as umbrellas, recycling containers and garden decorations.
Drivers should also remain alert on exposed roads, bridges and open sections of Highway 401. Strong crosswinds can be more noticeable for motorcycles, taller vehicles and vehicles towing trailers. Cyclists and pedestrians may experience more difficult conditions in open areas.
Winds Expected to Ease Wednesday Evening
Wednesday night is expected to bring only a few clouds. Northwest winds near 20 km/h are forecast to become light during the evening, with an overnight low of 16 C. The calmer conditions should provide relief after the gustier daytime weather.
Thursday is forecast to remain sunny in Oshawa. Winds are expected to become northerly at 20 km/h and gust to 40 km/h late in the morning. The high is forecast at 27 C, with a humidex near 31 and a very high UV index of 8. The overnight low could fall to 11 C under clear skies.
The outlook becomes more unsettled toward the weekend. Friday is expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 27 C. Saturday could be cloudier, with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high near 24 C. A similar 40 per cent chance of showers is forecast for Sunday, when temperatures may reach 27 C.
