Environment Canada’s latest outlook shows another risk of thunderstorms across Durham Region on Monday afternoon, Monday night and Tuesday.

Southern Durham, including Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington, has a 40 per cent chance of showers Monday afternoon with a risk of thunderstorms. The chance of showers rises to 70 per cent Monday night.

Tuesday is expected to remain mainly cloudy, with a 60 per cent chance of showers and another thunderstorm risk across the region. In southern Durham, northerly winds could gust to approximately 50 km/h Tuesday afternoon.

No Environment Canada weather alert was active for southern or northern Durham at midday Monday. However, thunderstorm watches or warnings could be issued with limited notice if storms intensify.

The widely reported possibility of 100 km/h winds applies mainly to the strongest storms forecast in southwestern Ontario. Durham residents should not be told that 100 km/h winds are specifically forecast locally.

Thunderstorms can still produce lightning, brief heavy rain, hail and strong gusts. Residents should move indoors when thunder is heard, secure loose outdoor objects and avoid flooded roads.

Thunderstorms remain possible across Durham Monday and Tuesday, although no local alert or specific 100 km/h wind forecast was active at midday Monday.
