The Lucy Maud Montgomery Society of Ontario (LMMSO), in partnership with Ryleepuss Productions, is bringing The Blue Castle: A Musical to Uxbridge this July to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved 1926 novel.
The original stage production will be presented at 11850 Durham Regional Road 1 in Uxbridge, offering audiences the opportunity to experience a fresh musical adaptation of one of Montgomery’s most celebrated works.
Based on The Blue Castle, the musical follows the inspiring journey of Valancy Stirling, a quiet woman whose life has long been shaped by family expectations and societal rules. After receiving life-changing news, Valancy chooses to embrace independence, adventure, and the possibility of love while discovering a new path in Ontario’s wilderness.
The production blends heartfelt storytelling, humour, and original music while remaining faithful to the spirit of Montgomery’s classic novel. Organizers say the musical honours the author’s most mature romance and celebrates the timeless message that it is never too late to pursue happiness and follow one’s dreams.
The performance marks the centennial anniversary of The Blue Castle, first published in 1926. Unlike Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables series, The Blue Castle was written for an adult audience and remains one of her most cherished novels for its themes of courage, self-discovery, and personal freedom.
A total of eight performances are scheduled throughout July, giving theatre lovers multiple opportunities to attend the production.
Performance dates include:
- Friday, July 3 – 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, July 4 – 2:00 p.m.
- Sunday, July 5 – 3:00 p.m.
- Thursday, July 9 – 7:30 p.m.

- Saturday, July 11 – 2:00 p.m.

The Lucy Maud Montgomery Society of Ontario continues to preserve and celebrate the legacy of one of Canada’s most influential authors through educational programs, cultural events, and theatrical productions that introduce new generations to her work.
