Grandview Kids is set to host its 30th annual “Golf Fore Grandview Kids” fundraising event later this month at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Ajax. The tournament, scheduled for May 28, represents a significant milestone for the organization, which has served the community for more than seven decades. As the only dedicated children’s treatment hub in Durham Region, Grandview Kids provides essential diagnosis and treatment services for children with special communicative, physical, or developmental needs.

The tournament aims to continue the financial success of previous years, with the 2025 event having raised more than $96,000. Over the past three decades, this specific golf fundraiser has generated nearly $2 million to support the organization’s mission. The itinerary includes meals, raffles, guest speakers, and various demonstrations throughout the day, with tickets currently available for those wishing to participate in the golf tournament or simply attend the lunch.

Oshawa resident Bradley Camus is supporting the cause for the eighth consecutive year. Camus’s personal connection to Grandview Kids runs deep, as his five-year-old son has been receiving treatment from the organization since being diagnosed with nonverbal autism at the age of two. For Camus, the tournament serves as a tangible way to support the facility that has played a crucial role in his family’s life.

“For me, it’s an opportunity to give back to an organization that really helps my family,” Camus said. He emphasized the importance of community support for families navigating new diagnoses. “A lot of people don’t have the means or even know where to go if their child is diagnosed with autism or special needs. If I can raise a couple bucks, it’s not (necessarily for) my son — maybe there’s another dad out there who can’t afford private therapy.”

To maximize his impact, Camus has organized a personal GoFundMe page to raise funds for Grandview Kids, planning to donate the proceeds on the day of the tournament. His campaign has already raised nearly $1,900 toward its $2,000 goal, reflecting a strong response from his community. He highlighted the consistency of care his family has received across various Grandview locations, noting the dedication of the staff.

“Every single person we met, you could tell they really cared about their jobs and giving back to the families and kids,” Camus remarked. “We’ve been to all of their locations and had that exact same experience everywhere.”

Although partially funded by the province, the organization relies heavily on private donations to maintain specialized services and facilitate expansions. The need for these services has grown; the prevalence of autism among children and youth has risen significantly since the early 2000s. Given that early intervention is often vital for children with developmental needs, Camus believes that backing the organization is “more critical than ever.”

Camus expressed gratitude for the support he has received from his network, noting that contributions have come from friends and peers he had not heard from in years. “It was very heartwarming to see,” he said. He added that beyond financial contributions, the event helps raise necessary awareness. “Even if people don’t have 50 bucks to donate, that’s fine — it also just helps bring a bit of awareness.”

Contributions can be made to Camus’s campaign or directly to Grandview Kids through official channels. Registration remains open for spots in the tournament or for the lunch portion of the event. The funds raised will help ensure that children throughout the region continue to have access to the critical therapeutic resources they require.
