During the Birds in Bloom Pickering workshop, participants will create colourful bird magnets using clay while drawing inspiration from the exhibition David Constantino Salazar: Forever (Bird-Botanicals). The activity encourages children to explore creativity through sculpture and artistic expression.

Organizers say the Birds in Bloom Pickering program combines visual arts with nature-inspired learning by encouraging young participants to design birds influenced by botanical and wildlife themes featured in the exhibit.

The workshop will guide children through the clay sculpting process step by step, helping them shape and decorate their own handmade bird creations. The finished clay bird magnets will serve as unique keepsakes that children can take home after the event.

The Birds in Bloom Pickering workshop is part of Pickering Museum Village’s family-focused educational programming, which regularly offers creative and cultural experiences for children and families throughout Durham Region.

In addition to supporting artistic development, the Birds in Bloom Pickering event also encourages appreciation for nature and local arts programming. Activities that combine creativity and environmental inspiration continue to be popular among families looking for interactive weekend experiences.

The event is fully wheelchair accessible, helping ensure children of different abilities can participate comfortably in the workshop activities.

Additional workshop dates are also scheduled for May 30, June 13, and June 27, giving families multiple opportunities to attend the Birds in Bloom Pickering experience during the spring and early summer season.

Programs like the Birds in Bloom Pickering workshop help strengthen community arts engagement while introducing children to sculpture, clay work, and museum-based learning experiences.

Registration is required for the event, and organizers encourage families to reserve spots early due to limited workshop capacity. The cost to participate is $24.72.

Residents looking for a fun and educational activity for children are encouraged to attend the Birds in Bloom Pickering clay workshop and enjoy a creative morning inspired by birds, flowers, and nature.
