As warmer weather arrives, the Township is reminding residents and visitors to follow important regulations when enjoying outdoor spaces. With increased activity expected in parks and waterfront areas, officials are urging everyone to be mindful of local bylaws this season. The message is clear: be careful where you camp or BBQ in Scugog this spring to avoid fines and help keep public spaces safe and clean.

The Township has outlined several key rules that apply across parks, recreation areas, and boat launch sites. These regulations are in place to protect the environment, ensure public safety, and maintain shared spaces for everyone. Visitors planning to spend time outdoors are encouraged to review the guidelines before heading out.

One of the most important reminders is that camping is not permitted in Scugog parks or recreation areas, including boat launch locations. While many visitors may be looking to enjoy nature, overnight stays are not allowed within these public spaces. Similarly, fishing is also prohibited at Scugog boat launch areas, helping manage congestion and preserve safety at these access points.

Fire safety is another major focus. Fires are strictly prohibited in all parks and recreation areas, meaning campfires and open flames are not allowed at any time. Those planning to cook outdoors must obtain a BBQ permit before using any equipment within park spaces. This helps ensure controlled and safe use of cooking facilities, especially during dry spring conditions.

In addition, the Township emphasizes that smoking is not permitted in Scugog parks, supporting a cleaner and healthier environment for all visitors. Waste management is also a priority, with residents reminded to dispose of garbage properly using the provided receptacles located throughout parks and along sidewalks, including Queen Street.

Parking rules are also in effect, particularly at boat launch locations. The Boat Launch Parking Lot off Old Rail Line remains open to the public, but those with trailers must obtain a valid permit through Honk Mobile. Seasonal parking passes are also available for frequent visitors.

The Township also notes that gatherings of more than 25 people require a permit, ensuring that larger events are properly managed and do not disrupt other park users. This regulation is especially important as group activities increase during the spring and summer months.

Officials stress that failure to follow these bylaws may result in fines. The reminder to be careful where you camp or BBQ in Scugog this spring is part of a broader effort to promote responsible outdoor use and protect community spaces.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to review all bylaws through the Township’s official resources before planning outdoor activities this season.
