After a brief mid-week warm spell that saw temperatures climb into the high teens, residents in Southern Ontario should prepare for a noticeably crisper weekend weather forecast. According to the latest data from Environment and Climate Change Canada, the unseasonable warmth that graced the region on Thursday will give way to a cooling trend starting Friday morning. While the mid-week peak reached a pleasant 18°C, the upcoming weekend will see the mercury struggle to hit double digits, bringing conditions back in line with typical late-April averages for the Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area.

The shift begins on Friday, April 24, as a cold front moves through the province. A high of only 10°C is expected under partly sunny skies across Oshawa, Whitby, and Ajax. However, the day will likely be unsettled, with a 60 per cent chance of rain during the daylight hours, tapering off to a 30 per cent chance by the evening. For those planning Friday night activities, the weekend weather forecast warns of a significant temperature drop, with overnight lows dipping to a chilly 3°C. Residents in more northern communities like Uxbridge and Brock may even see a light frost in rural areas where the wind remains calm.

Saturday is predicted to be the dampest part of the weekend weather forecast. Conditions will remain fairly cool with a high of approximately 10°C and a low of 5°C. The sky will be primarily cloudy, and there is a consistent 60 per cent chance of rain throughout the day. This damp and grey pattern is expected to persist across the entire Lakeshore East corridor, making it a better day for indoor activities than outdoor recreation. Fortunately, the system is expected to clear out just in time for the final half of the weekend, offering a brief window of improvement.

Sunday offers the “silver lining” for the weekend weather forecast, as temperatures are expected to climb slightly to a high of 13°C. The region will see a mix of sun and cloud, providing a much-needed break from the rain. While this is still slightly below the 14°C historical normal for this time of year, the return of the sun will make outdoor parks and trails in Clarington and Pickering much more inviting. The evening will remain stable with a forecast low of 5°C. As we move into the final week of April, these fluctuations remain a standard fixture of the Ontario spring, serving as a reminder to keep the light jackets handy despite the occasional summer-like afternoon.
